William “Bill” E. Ruth, 93, of Ellisville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023. He passed away peacefully at his residence while surrounded by family.

Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 20, from 1-3 p.m. with the funeral service following at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Laurel. Rev. Shannon Slover and Dr. John Helveston will officiate. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel.

Pallbearers will be Matthew David, Carson Atwood, Brett Davis, David Hudson, Chad Stringer and Andrew Bohannon. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Pickering, Roy Wyrick, Stan Herrington and Bobby Stevens. 

Born on Oct. 21, 1930, in Leitchfield, Ky., Bill was a graduate of the University of Louisville and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Bill was an active member of First Baptist Church of Laurel, serving the Lord and his church as a deacon and in many other capacities. He enjoyed being outdoors, where he spent much time with his flowers and gardening. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and taking trips across the country seeing new places, basking in the creation of our Lord and making lasting memories.

He was preceded in death by his wife Loretta Ruth; his parents; brothers and sisters; and three grandchildren, Daniel, Ryan and Kayla Sanville. 

Survivors include daughter Becky Dial (Randy) of Pearl; son Dr. Edward Ruth (Raquel) of Torrance, Calif.; daughter Stacy Ruth of Ellisville; and granddaughter Lexie Ruth of Ellisville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to First Baptist Church of Laurel for the Honduras Medical Mission or Amber’s Light.
